What is lingerie?
Lingerie is fine underwear for women. Like so many beautiful things of good taste, the word comes from France. Another word for fine underwear is lingerie, also from French. Americans like to say intimates, sportier underwear is considered Bodywear designated.
Underwired bra
A beautiful underwired bra provides perfect support and sets curves perfectly in scene with the two integrated underwires, which are mostly made of metal.
These thin metal brackets have a shaping effect and support the bust. This is especially important for large cup sizes.
Wired bras come in these subcategories:
Unlined or unpadded bras have no pads or cups for a very natural shape with light support from the underwire.
T-shirt bra, a molded bra without seams, so it is invisible even under tight tops.
Padded or cup bra with preformed cups that gently lift the breasts and give them a nice round shape. With its heavy padding, this cup bra is called a push-up or maximizer because it makes the bust size appear significantly larger.
Balconette bra with particularly wide side straps and half cups, making balconette bras look particularly sexy. It's also practical because the bra straps remain invisible, even with tops that have a wide cut-out. Also available as a push-up, then usually called a dirndl bra.
The sexy balconette variant is called shelf bra with a demi cup or a 1/4 cup. The demi or 1/2 cup extends to about the nipples. In the quarter cup, the bust is exposed and supported and slightly lifted by the cups.
A plunge bra has a low center bar and is therefore ideal for plunging necklines - especially when something of the beautiful embroidery or lace is seen or even specially decorated like here at Marlies Dekkers.
Bralettes or triangle bras
They are usually made without underwire and are particularly suitable for smaller breasts. They are very comfortable and yet extremely seductive. There are different models that give different support. bralettes are also available with cups that can be padded differently. Soft bras should be comfortable and have no underwire; but can be upholstered or padded.
A highly fashionable variant of the triangle bra is the HIGH APEX BRA. The triangular triangle cups of a high apex bra reach to the shoulder. This gives the bra more support and the breasts appear fuller.
Ouvert, peephole and open cup bras
Is the sexy version of lingerie that exists for all types of lingerie, and often as lingerie referred to as. Ouvert comes from French and means "open", English "open" - i.e. panties or bodysuits that are open at the crotch or an open bra that has playful openings in the nipple area. peephole is an ouvert variant and means peephole... The different panty shapes
A classic briefs sits about waist high and covers the buttocks. A fashionable take on the classic brief, it features high-cut legs for an '80s look that's Jane Fonda aerobics.
The bikini briefs is sexier than the classic slip. It has a lower cut, so it has less fabric and shows more skin. In this way, the bikini panties avoid flashing with lower-cut skirts or trousers.
The high waist briefs is a newly discovered panty shape for a retro look. The high-waist briefs reach down to the waist and elegantly conceal one or two extra pounds. Some waist briefs also have a slight shape effect (click here) and are a perfect choice for fitted flowing dresses.
A thong is a pair of panties with a very narrow T-shaped back. Thongs are perfect for tight-fitting clothing as they don't add bulk.
The G-String is a mini thong with only a narrow ribbon on the back. The G-string is celebrating its fashion comeback as an important part of 2000s fashion. Hipsters and boy shorts have a more masculine cut with a straight leg and are more covering. Hipsters are often worn under short skirts and dresses in summer or super trendy with a visible waistband under low-cut jeans. Yes, the fashion sin from the 2000s is actually back!
